Jack replied while struggling to keep the aircraft flying, "No! We took severe damage somewhere!"
The aircraft jerked and jumped while the engine sputtered and roared. Jack began aiming the plane toward the river as a chunk of something fell off the wing. Due to the loss of this "something" the craft could no longer stay flying in a straight line. Jack shouted over the now loud airplane to Derrik, "I'm pretty sure we needed that! I'm gonna get as close as I can to the river. We may have to jump out while we're over it! Nice shot, by the way, Iks."
Since the plane couldn't fly in a straight line anymore, Jack maneuvered it in a wide spiral, and tried to get it in a parallel course with the river. He could see a smoke trail from his previous path in the pale dawn. "Hm. I guess we're on fire." Jack said.
He finally got the plane over the river and tried to force it onto the water. He yelled to Derrik as he began pushing him out the right side of the cabin, "Controls are unresponsive! Jump out! Jump!"
The plane was cruising forty MPH not ten feet above the unfriendly surface of the cold Eufrat River.

Derrik smiled and said...
"Well, better late than never!"
And with that Derrik assumed the normal Seal position of 'falling backwards' into the river. He skipped a long a few times, and it jostled his entire bone structure. He swam back up to the surface though to see how Jack fared.

Jack jumped in immediately after Derrik. He skipped on his back once and then plunged beneath the surface. The current was strong, but Jack effortlessly kicked his way back up. He poked his head above the water and saw Derrik looking around. He called to him, and they both began swimming to the shore opposite Fallujah. As they swam, they heard the crash of the sea plane, on the opposite shore and out of sight.
They two SEALs pulled crawled up a sandy bank of the Eufrat. Jack suddenly cringed in pain and grabbed his shin. He whispered in agony, "Lost the wrap... sand got in! I lost the rest of my pills." He clenched his jaw and dunked his leg back into the river to clean out the sand.
Breathless and pale faced, Jack looked back up to Derrik and said, "We've gotta... we've gotta get a ride... to the gulf." Jack was seeing doubles and the dawn seemed to be darkening. He felt like Derrik wasn't listening to him, even though his was right in front of him. He tried again, "Iks, you gotta get us..." Jack then passed out on the bank.

Derrik was trying to listen, but also attempting to keep Jack somewhat quiet because there were at least six Turbans on the other bank, investigating the crash of the plane. Derrik looked down at Jack and rolled his eyes in frustration. Realizing that he needed to move, and quickly, Derrik hoisted Jack up onto his shoulder and began to trot, as quietly as possible, up the bank and to the nearest house. Derrik laid Jack down just outside the house, pulled out his silenced, 9mm and entered the building. Once he realized the house was clear he returned back outside, picked up Jack, and brought him inside.
After bandaging Jack's leg up as best as he could, Derrik searched the bathroom area of the house and actually found a few pain-killer meds. He then gave them to Jack and poured a little bit of cold water on his face. Nothing. Panic began to creep into Derrik's mind. Attempting to talk to himself and calm himself down, Derrik went to the window to see how close to dawn it was.
...it was simply getting brighter and brighter and Derrik knew that although Jack might die if they moved, they would both die if they stayed there. Derrik heard the sound of a starting truck... drawing his pistol again, Derrik moved around the house towards the sound of the now backing up truck. A door opening, two silenced bullets, a quick honk on the horn because of the idiot driver dying forward, and a quick yank soon saw Derrik pulling the truck right in front of the house that Jack was in.
Derrik lowered the passenger's seat and, as best as he could, placed Jack comfortably in the truck. He began driving along the side of the river at a pretty rapid pace. Talking aloud to attempt to wake up Jack, Derrik felt quite stupid and very scared, but he fueled that passion and fear into adrenaline and strength, driving faster and faster. It was quite a bumpy ride and Derrik hoped that perhaps that would help to jostle him back into consciousness...
"Hey buddy... c'mon Jack-Jack... how do we survive if I don't know where we gotta get to, man? Jaaaack... Wakey Wakey dude."
"JACK! WAKE UP!"

Half unconscious, Jack yelled, "Uuaagh! Shut-up!" He then opened his eyes and shook his head. He tried to analyze his surroundings. He looked over at Derrik and noticed the ridiculously bumpy road. He gave a confused look and grouched, "What the heck?"
Derrik didn't answer, so Jack assumed he'd be able to figure it out on his own. His head was hurting and spinning. He had trouble thinking and focusing. He yelled forward, "Why are we driving on a washboard?!" He was quiet for a moment and thought, "My leg isn't hurting." He then looked at Derrik and asked, "What did you give me? Youuuu're a retard. Ahaaaaha!" Jack tried to focus for a minute and keep a serious face when he said, "Fer cryin' out loud, Iks; You gave me somethin' real stroooong."
Jack dug in his vest and pulled out some pepper. He looked cross-eyed over at Derrik and said, "I looooove pepper." He then cut open the three ounce pack and swallowed the entirety of the contents. Jack's eyes widened and he shouted, "Baaahaaahow! That's incredible! Oh man! I think it is helping though."
The truck was now five miles from Al Faw.

Derrik rolled his eyes at Jack. He muttered 'pepper' and just kept driving. Al Faw was coming up on the horizon, and as he was driving, Derrik began to check the clips in his 9mm and his main firearm. Checking all his equipment, as usual, he looked over at Jack to see how he was faring.
"You better yet, Pepper?"

Jack grimaced and said, "Wow! Yeah, a little." He was still a little out of it, but aware of what was happening.
After five minutes of driving Jack and Derrik crossed into Al Faw. Jack started to fall asleep, and Derrik jerked the truck off the road. Jack had thankfully strapped himself if, but was thoroughly jostled. They roughly bounced to a stop in the ditch; Jack looked over at Derrik and said, "What? APC? AA? It would make sense to see more defenses with Al Faw being next to the Gulf."

Derrik turned off the car immediately. And turned to Jack.
"Shut up! You want them to hear ya?" Opening the door as quiet as possible, Derrik grabbed his gun and got out. Slowly crawling up to the side of the road, he screwed on his silencer and latched on his scope. Two quick shots ended the lives of two armed guards who were taking their smoke break outside of Al Faw.
Derrik moved back down to Jack and said, hastily.
"Why the frick would they have guards in Al Faw this early in the morning?! You think they know?"
Derrik turned back to the city and began analyzing the layout as to the best way to get in and/or around.

When Derrik left the truck, Jack thought, "That little whipper snapper!" but then when Derrik shot the guards that were on the road, he thought, "That smart little whipper snapper..." He was still a little out of it.
When Derrik asked Jack if the militia forces knew if they were here, Jack suddenly gathered all of his senses. He stared forward with wide eyes. He then looked at Derrik who was looking the other direction and said, "That must have been how they were able to ambush us in that apartment building. They knew we were here somehow. You're right--They wouldn't guard a road to Al Faw from inland for no reason."
Jack jumped out of his side of the truck, ignoring his pain, and pulled himself onto the roof of it. Looking through his scope, he spotted three tanks sitting on the road in front of a radar station. "Dang it! They do know we're here!" He hopped down next to Derrik and pointing toward Al Faw, he said, "Iks, those suckers out there are responsible for the deaths of Sean, Tyler, Father, Muddy, Nickle, Fuzz and Jake. My boys aren't gonna take that without some severe revenge!" Jack was almost crying, "C'mon Iks. We owe this to them. Let's trash those tanks and find out who spotted our insertion. Whoever's in that radar station is gonna pay." Jack forged ahead, fueled by thoughts of vengeance.

Derrik smiled and jogged to catch up with Jack. As he caught up he questioned Jack...
"How are you going to get around quickly with your bum leg? I'm not carrying you if you were even thinking it. Just because I can blow up radar stations, tanks, and carry my buddies at the same time doesn't mean I am going to do it."
There was a guard who was calling to the guards that Derrik had shot. He was just questioning them for a response, Derrik assumed. Sliding to the near end of the house, Derrik prepared his pistol for a quick, silenced kill. The guard suddenly yelled and ran to the body on the ground. His realization of who the killer was and his own death was practically instantaneous. Both of the bodies were then dragged, by Derrik, behind the house and covered with a few around-the-house tools and a tarp.
Derrik turned to Jack to make sure he was alright.
"How ya doin', Gimpy?"

Jack wasn't in the mood for smiling. Maybe this new guy didn't fully comprehend this concentration on revenge with which Jack was enthralled. He despised the very idea that the people responsible for killing his friends, even now, walked freely. He could barely contain himself from charging like a wild man at them.
Ignoring Derrik's question, Jack pushed by him and said, "Come on."
The pain in his leg did neither hinder, nor even slow down this SEAL bent on revenge. With Derrik close behind him, Jack crawled through bushes near the three tanks in front of the radar station. He waited for Derrik to come along side and said, "You focus on the tanks. I don't care if you can total them or not, but I need to get in that radar station. Destroy them or keep them distracted. Here's my C-4."
Jack then crawled farther into the brush to find a covered way to the station.

Derrik hadn't truly realized the seriousness of it. To be honest, he was basically in shock from this whole experience. He wasn't prepared for a mission of this nature. He was strong, read, prepared, smart, accurate, powerful... but he wasn't prepared to lose his entire team minus one. However, these thoughts weren't in his mind. He was focused on the tanks and he was quite sobered by Jack.
Moving closer to the tanks via a back alley, Derrik took a peek around the corner. It seemed as though the tanks were silent. Dormant. Derrik sprinted, staying low to the ground, to the first tank. He placed the C4 on the tank but didn't set it. He then moved around to the second tank and turned, against the tank, to see where Jack was at. He listened...

Jack crawled up to the nearest bush to the radar station and checked the tanks. He saw Derrik leaning against one of the tanks and looking in his direction. Jack nodded to him, pulled out his SIG, and started toward the door of the station. Just then, a turban popped his head out of the middle tank with a cigarette. Derrik made an effort to get out of sight but also made a small disturbance in the dust. This caused the man on the tank to scramble for his weapon. Seeing this, Jack took aim with his SIG and fired a single shot through his head. The rifle was not silenced. Jack yelled to Iks, "Blow those tanks!!" turned, and kicked down the front door of the station.
Two men with AK's were in mid-run toward the door as Jack fired a fatal burst. The two men fell as Jack turned left to ascend the stairs. His movement was flawless, his reflexes, perfectly in tune. He had one mission, and that was to kill the radar operator.
On the second floor Jack encountered another bogey hiding behind a mess of crates in the corner. This one was ready for him. He fired a panic inspired, thirty round barrage in Jacks direction, even though Jack had ducked on the stairs. Irritated at this delay, as soon as the barrage ended, Jack popped up and fired four rounds in the turban's face.
Jack instantly made for the stairs leading to the third floor. He thought, "If there's anyone up there, he'd better hope the seventy virgins are worth what's comin'." He charged up the stairs ready to unload the rest of his clip into some scrawny geek looking at a screen.
As he began come to the point of seeing the entire room, he heard one shot and a thud. Everything was quiet in the room afterward. Jack assumed he committed a cowardly suicide; nevertheless, he checked to make sure. There was a body with a pistol in its hand. Jack saw no blood, so he walked closer to double check. Suddenly the dead man sat up pointing a pistol at Jack, screamed, "Die American!" and fired one shot before Jack unloaded his clip into him. That one shot, however, met Jack in the middle of his right shoulder. The bullet missed the bone, but caused Jack to go into shock. He simply fell straight back and laid on the floor shaking. He shivered as he whispered, "Iks... C'mon baby, clean 'em up."

The blood was pulsing. Derrik's adrenaline rushed through his body and suddenly any thought process was gone. Reflexes. Everything had become reflexes.
After the first turban that came out of the middle tank, two others followed his response in their own tanks. They must have guessed it was a prank and they didn't want to miss out on the fun because one was smoking when he came out and the other had a camera. One was met by the shock of seeing a grenade pass down in between his legs into his tank and then the butt of a gun in the face and the other was met with six bullets to the head and upper chest. The first tank met the results of the grenade from the inside and was very much inoperable. The second tank met a similar fate but from an explosive Derrik had found on the dead guard hanging out of the tank. The third tank had the C4 on it and the timer began counting down. 45 seconds.
Derrik turned at the sound of "Die American!" and booked it inside the building as fast as he could.
Heart pounding. Quick breathing.
30 seconds.
Second flight of stairs.
15 seconds...
'No, no, no... c'mon Jack-Jack...'
10 seconds...
Derrik arrived at the spot and saw Jack. Stun.
"Jack! Jack, don't you dare let go!!"
Derrik ripped off his outer shirt and used it to stop up the bleeding. He grabbed a bit of gauze and quickly began wrapping the shoulder tightly. The last tank went off and Derrik quickly covered Jack out of instinct. He then started talking to Jack as he attempted him to calm down and get him out of shock. Derrik ripped the blanket off a nearby couch and wrapped it around Jack as he slowly lifted him to the couch. He then began to stick some of the turban's jackets behind his head to make him comfortable, all the while talking to Jack saying pretty slowly and very matter-of-factly...
"Talk to me man, talk to me. Tell me what's happening once we get back on base... you owe me dinner, you know that? And you know where we're going to go? You remember what restaurant? Tell me what restaurant, Jack. Talk to me man. "

What at first was throbbing at every heart-beat, changed into the world spinning wildly.
Jack could feel that someone was carrying him. He felt a little warmer as he felt this person set him down on something soft. He tried to open his eyes and focus on what was happening. As he did, he realized that the person was talking to him. It was so hard to focus.
"I... I feel unstable. I'm bad for the mission." Jack slurred. Then he focused on understanding the voice. He kept hearing, "Where are we eating? Where are we eating, Jack?" Jack couldn't fathom who this could be. He thought, "We're not eating! What is this guy talkin' about?"
Then he heard, "...when we get back to base..." and suddenly all the blurs in his mind began to sharpen. He closed his eyes tightly thought hard. Rapidly it came to him, and he remembered and shouted, "Iks!" He then heard laughing. He smiled and incoherently said, "We're eating at the Ember Grille in downtown Chicago! Haha! I do owe ya!" He then dropped his head back on the couch and muttered, "Hey Iks, I feel awful."
