"I was manufactured ready." One pro. about training together for years, is that each team member knows the other's plan, and each knows his own part to play. They both dove simultaneously out of the narrow hut door. In perfect synchronization, they each fired one round before the tuck and roll. Jack fired left, Derrik fired right. They rose from the roll as two bodies fell. With staggering skill, they took command of the field and cleaned up the remaining opposition. They were back in the game. Jack ordered, "Let's move!" They broke into an energetic run into the thick of the jungle. Jack's mind tried to keep up with his feet. "How are we gonna get off this island?" he asked himself. He shared his inquiry, "Iks, any ideas on how to get outta here?" [[Any ideas on how they get outta there?]]

[[Hahaha, no clue... yet... other than the mode of transportation that the arabian guy used... the chopper that he used that's still on the hill over there... ]]
Derrik scanned the horizon, then he heard the familiar whooshing sound of chopper blades.
"You hear that? Is that what I think it is?"
Then... something happened that Derrik did NOT want to happen. He heard a female's voice.
"Hello?! Is anyone out there? I don't know what's going on, but I need to get out of here!"
Derrik turned in the direction of the voice. There was another hut on the opposite side of where their hut was. Derrik looked at Jack.
"Flip a coin? Or be honorable?"

The first thought that went through Jack's mind when he heard this female voice was, "No! Not women!" He voraciously scowled in the black jungle and muttered back to Derrik in a barely audible voice, "We gotta help her... dang it."
Jack observed the chopper as a roared by over the tree tops. As they ran toward this voice, Jack said to Derrik, "I thought I recognized that sound. UH-1 Huey. That chopper was made for Nam. These guys are scroungers if they're using stuff that old."
Jack looked for any excuse to think about something besides the fact that they were on their way to save a woman. Women were just plain old bad in Jack's book. Every way he looked at it, they were bad. They were devious, sneaky, malicious, distracting, and somehow, they had a way of getting him to like them. They were just another drug to Jack. He told himself to just stay away from it.
The voice cried out nearby, and they closed in. They found an American woman in her thirties covered from head to toe in black mud and crying her eyes out. Jack figured it was some trick. He kept telling himself, "Say 'no' to women. Just say 'no'."
Recognizing that Jack and Derrik were Americans, she lurched forward and wrapped her arms around Jack. This put a contorted look of abstaining on his face. Derrik's sick little grin broke the camel's back. "Your turn, Cupid!" Jack nearly threw the woman into Derrik's arms.

Derrik sidestepped and the woman came within an inch of the tree. She stopped herself.
"Surprisingly good control for not being able to move early, oh distressed damsel." Derrik said, lifting his pistol to hip level and aiming at her. He looked her up and down... not in the romantic way as Jack was undoubtedly doing (goofball fell for every chick that swung her hips near him). Muddy hair... but at the same time he saw a braid in one of the side areas. And looking at her hair from when she stopped, he noticed that there was no mud underneath the outer layer. She had recently landed in the mud... either that or she had simply applied it to herself hastily. Derrik was suspicious.
"When did you get here, where are you from, and why are you here? Speak quickly or you're done for."
Derrik glanced to look at Jack to see how he was handling the situation. Jack looked determined to not like this woman. (Bad move, the harder you fight, the more the monster grows. Just put it out of your mind, Jack)
...Women were such a pain... well, most of the time... Derrik grinned a little to himself.

As much as Jack disproved of womankind, he was rather surprised at Derrik's actions. He reached his hand to the woman. "Iks, take it easy..." She grabbed his extended hand and flipped him over her back.
Jack could only think, "She's stronger than she looks... I like that." She pulled a gun.

Derrik didn't want a hostage situation. He hated those. He quickly fired two shots directly at her armed hand. One bullet went into the gun and knocked it out of her hand and the second hand took off her ring finger. The hand was her right hand. Derrik smiled at the irony.
"Jack, get up. Chica, back up. Now. I still have plenty more bullets, wench."
The woman took a step back and her left hand began to hold her right hand, attempting to nurse it. She wimpered a little, but she fought the pain well. She was used to handling pain.

Jack jumped to his feet dumbstruck. He gaped wide-eyed at the feline and then looked Derrik in the eyes. "That did not happen, Iks. Nobody knows about that! Ever! Not in briefing, not in your log, not even in your dreams!" He frowned back at the girl who was nursing her wound. The pathetic, needful expression on her face made Jack want to go over, hold her, and comfort her. With his brain, he punched himself in the face. "Are you that stupid, you moron?!" He turned around muttering, "Women... gosh!"
He spun back around again, "OK, Iks, we don't have time for her. Tie her up, and let's get going." She interrupted, "NO!" Jack raised his eyebrows and inquired, "No? And why not, Jane? All I know is that you lured us in with a distress call and viciously attacked me... also that you have a nice face. If you can give one good reason for me to take you, I promise that I might consider thinking about it."
She didn't smirk at his comment about her face. Jack didn't like that... yes he did. She responded immediately, "I have a way off this island." "OK, tell us." Jack spoke with her in unison, "I have to show you, right." She leaned back on a tree. "So what's it gonna be, cowboy? You gonna trust me or just run around on the beaches until the local militia gets tired of your yelping?" Jack was not happy. "Just one thing... actually two. If all you wanted was off this island, why did you attack me?" She got that smirk. "Because you're cute." Jack scowled. "That fatal attraction cost you a finger, ginger." She looked down asking, "What's the second thing?" "I'm from Chicago. I'm not a cowboy. Move." He pulled his side-arm. She became melancholy and forged into the jungle holding her hand.
Jack walked by Derrik's beaming face. "I'm just playin' her. Shutup."

Derrik just kept smiling. He walked a little closer to Jack and whispered.
"You can play with her all you want... but the moment she insults me or gives me a bad look, I'm shooting her leg. She does it again? I'll shoot her other leg. I have plenty of rounds and, in my opinion, there are few better uses for a bullet then for a dame who can't keep her mouth shut or respect her authority. Don't get too attached, Jackypoo... she's a vixen, and a vexing one at that."
Derrik walked a bit faster and moved out a little bit to the right. He gave distance so that the vixen could imagine that she could attack Jack and possibly win. Derrik kinda liked it when he could be the hero. He didn't think this chick would do anything super-stupid. She obviously had a brain. She was down here for a reason. But what reason would that be? Why was she down here? What...
Derrik hadn't exactly been paying attention to which direction they were going, but he now noticed that up ahead, there were fences, a couple of towers... and what looked to be a compound.
Derrik began hustling back over to Jack to discuss the matter with him... but then it happened...

A volley of eight missiles launched from the center of the compound. Their burners flooded the surrounding two miles with orange light, and Jack and Derrik hit the dirt. The woman simply stood there watching. "Just tryna get attention" Jack concluded.
Jack did a quick crawl to Derrik very purposefully tripping the girl on the way. "This is probably what our contact was going to tell us about." The missiles impacted an isolated area on a mountainside. Cheers and claps at the sight were interrupted by a delayed and muffled series of booms. A light concussion startled the leaves. He continued, "I don't know how you feel about this, Iks, but I'm making a judgement call here. Our new mission is gain intel. on this operation and get out."
Jack rolled his eyes at the next happening. The woman, laying nearby, fiercely whispered, "No!" Jack knocked his head on the ground complaining, "Why, why, why?? It doesn't matter what I say! Some woman somewhere does not approve. What is wrong with your infernal hormones that you have to counteract every decision I make!? Is it written on my forehead or something? 'Counteract Jack'?" She sullenly glowered at him. He wasn't finished. "I honestly can not remember one decision I've made with a woman present when she did not try to alter or scrub my plan. Can you not simply accept one decision I make as a reasonable course of action? Just accept it as reasonabl..." Jack clammed up as a spotlight shone near them. He spoke to Derrik. "I'll move around the east side, you take the west. Since our tech is inexplicably down, we'll take all intel. for memory. Meet back here in one hour." He almost left without saying something to the discomfited woman. "Oh, and you stay here, chickadee. Do not question, so help me I will shoot your other hand."
He turned to leave but considered her injury. Derrik hadn't left yet, but Jack still knelt down to her. She perked up, quite confused, a little curious. He pulled a bandage and gauze from his kit. He gently placed the gauze where her finger was and firmly wrapped it on with the bandage cloth. She watched his face as he tended to her. He could feel her hand tremble from the trauma. He kept his eyes on her hand. "You're in shock." She softly replied, "Yeah... It's not a bad shock though." A small chuckle came out in a breath through his nose. Without looking her in the eye, he rose and left for the east side of the compound.
He past Derrik, who was watching the whole thing. He said to Jack, "Playin' her huh?" Jack paused and then continued again. "One hour."

Derrik chuckled then followed after Jack for a few steps.
"We have no comm, and you're leaving me with a woman I've already shot once... and you expect both of us to gain intel?" Derrik folded his arms and waited for Jack to agree, but when the agreement didn't come he decided to take a different approach.
"Listen, I'll try and talk some sense into her... but where are you going for intel? You going to search the compound where they were launched? Then I'll go up to the mountainside to see what they were shooting at. Shall we meet back here at... 18:00? Sound good to you? That should give us about... what, six hours?"
Derrik checked his own clip and gave a quick glance over his shoulder at the "chickadee". She was nursing her wound and watching the two of them talking.
"Oh, and I think your chili's being dug, homes..."
Derrik winked and gave a small grin at Jack...

Jack's face didn't change. "OK, fine. We'll do that. See you here at 18:00 hours." He looked at the woman. "Stay here." She looked at him for a second and then focused on her wounded hand. She was obviously fighting a display of pain. Jack turned into a jog tapping Derrik twice on the shoulder.
He made his way toward the compound and took an abrupt right. He waited for ten seconds. "Iks!"
"Yeah." Came an answer from the darkened leaves.
Jack walked to the voice saying, "I'm not a fool. You may not remember because you were checking out some General's perky secretary, but this compound has been cased for over a month. We don't need intel. on it. Let's go see what this player's up to."
They quietly walked together back to where they left her. She was gone. Jack paused. Then cautiously stepped forward. Derrik was either mad or very calm. He stood next to Jack and quietly said, "Sorry man." He walked off looking for tracks.
Jack stood alone for a moment. He whispered, "Hello?" He was answered by the sounds of the jungle. He slapped a giant leaf out of the way as he went after Derrik.

((Dang, now I'm confused. Were they going together? Or did they separate for intel? Not that it matters too much now, because they are together and heading in the same direction now.))
Derrik continued looking for tracks all around. He shook his head. 'The source' he thought. He turned and walked to where he remembered the girl sitting last. He saw the tracks of that... then of where she went. Towards the mountainside. Judging from the tracks it looks like she was struggling for speed. She was rushing.
Derrik took off running in the direction that she went.
"She's in a hurry, Jack." Derrik called over his shoulder. He was moving quite quickly right into the underbrush and forest of the mountainside. He paused for a second as soon as he entered the actual forest. It seemed as though the underbrush just outside was made to look like it continued through the entire forest, but it stopped, rather abruptly too. It was strange. Derrik looked down at the ground and reached down, picking up a leaf to smell it for any sort of pesticide or any chemical made to kill plants.
Jack came tearing through the underbrush. "Hey, godzilla, once you are done letting everyone on the island know where we are, smell this. You pick up any chemicals there?"
Derrik offered the leaf to Jack but before Jack could take it an arrow came soaring through the air and landed in the tree right next to Jack's head. Both men jumped behind trees and took a peek as to where it came.
Nothing.
"Did you catch a visual at all? Any sounds, Jack?"
Derrik waited and listened...
