It's been a long time since I've posted anything on here, but I thought you might appreciate having something fresh to look at. This is not a story or anything,(although I may post one later) just something I sat down yesterday and started to write while thinking about... life and death. I'm not the strongest writer, but i'm a religious person, so it sort of strings from that. I wanted to write something that could be applied to the people i'm most often around, but really it's for anyone. I want to stir people out of their stuck in the moment thinking. I don't really know if i'm "finished" with it,(grammar and punctuation are not my strong suit) but I think it could be a good topic for a conversation, and really I just wrote it to make people think. Feel free to give me feedback, or share your own thoughts.
*deep breath*
A great society plants trees to shade the future, not themselves. Will you succumb to the mold that your
society has given you to fit into? I hope not. I hope that you will rise to the challenge of your own discovery.
All around you nature is creating perfectly unique individuals, while our society hands out a grotesque form.
Getting married and starting a family is no ones sole divine purpose in life. You are not here to fill the status quo.
We hack away and carve at our bodies until we look like marble gods and goddesses. We disappoint ourselves with the expectations of the world, thrown at us from every magazine and billboard as though it will give us any lasting sense of meaning or beauty. We search for that one love; that antidote to the silent horrible truth that spills out in our moments of solitude and reflection, and we so hope that they will be the cure to our disorder. We hope that once we have those framed titles living on our office walls, and our children's smiling faces on our desks that we will feel complete. We live as if the things we own truly belong to us. As if our accomplishments that we take so much pride in will mean anything to anyone... In the end... death will defeat us.
The truth is, the earth has no control over itself, and no man or government has any control over where it is going. We are are all here together on a rudderless ship headed in one direction. You can deny yourself the freedom of rational exploration, or you can believe what you're told to believe; you can fabricate salvation and ignore the bitter end.
How many years will we live like this? Are we too week to accept that we will lose our lover, our children, our home, our country, this earth? Even our bodies will betray us; our beauty and youth will not last. We will exit the stage with nothing... Will you let the world or the men in it tell you who to be, what to think, where to go and what to hold onto? You can let go of your sand castle possessions, and your feel good religions. You can live a life without a travel guide, or great identity.
We must never stop searching for truth; we must not get comfortable in our beliefs. Too often the end is used as a tool for fear and indifference when it should be a tool for motivation. The only effect we can ever have as humans is on other humans. It's not too late to be a positive effect on those around you. It's too early to accept the end.
