I'm convinced that it's not always bad to be different. Sometimes uniqueness actually draws unnecessary attention to you which would cause pride and selfishness. When would you say uniqueness is good and effective?

I'd say in a case where you are surrounded by evil and choosing to do the thing that is opposite. Standing out as the one light in a dark room is obviously unique being as it is the "one light", and can affect anyone who is shone upon. I may have taken the illustration pretty far, but it I was making a point.

Naw, the point is well stated. So, the rightness of the choice is based on the circumstances, obviously.
I think that it becomes harder to become that 'one light' if everyone else isn't exactly dark, but is definitely not light either ya know? It seems like the perfect contrast of black and white will rarely happen in our lives... but rather it's being 'brighter' than the others, in a sense... and I don't mean that intellectually, but spiritually, or even emotionally sometimes. Ya?

Yeah, you're right. The line between good and evil sometimes blurs and becomes very wide. It even seems to overlap on occasion, but the brighter you shine, the starker the contrast. You've just gotta know which side you're committed to put out for. Attachments:

Fascinating... What is the pic of? If not just a study in dark and light contrasts... I have attached a picture that I feel is pretty accurate as a representation of what it feels like to be a contrast or to look for other contrasts... Attachments:

It was of me walking across a bridge near Northland, but I cropped it down and ran a threshold affect on it.
Yeah, your pic is pretty realistic I think. Everything seems meshed and mixed together. Hard to tell what's what being as there's no dividing line anymore.

Aye, it's kinda hard to see you walking across the bridge, but I do get the concept.
With mine it communicates also the fact that most of the white spots are not necessarily surrounded by black, but rather grey, then black, ya know? Which usually seems to be the way it is. It doesn't look as bad if you are surrounded by grey then if you are surrounded by black.

The idea was that I was walking and choosing to walk on the light side.
And I know what you mean. But what I said earlier also applies here. The brighter you shine, the greater the diversity. Grey looks pretty dark next to blinding white.

Aha! I see what you mean now. That makes perfect sense. Excellent explanation.

Awesome. I think that when a decision is difficult to make because you're unsure whether it's right or wrong, going back to the basics in prayer at least lets others know which direction you're walking. Attachments:

Excellent call.
The wisdom of others is also a good thing to seek, but sometimes the harder battle is finding who to talk to about it. Who is actually "wise", ya know?

I've found, in my experience, that when you're in a dire straight, the people you can trust for guidance naturally come to mind. Kinda like any unsaved person calling on God to save them when their lives are in danger.

Wow, well said and good point! That's so true. Natural instinct kicks in and points you in the direction you need to go... although, in the mentioned scenario, perhaps it's the Holy Spirit... but good call!

Uniqueness is overrated. It's like the non-conformist movement; they strive so hard to avoid conforming, they conform with non-conformity.
To me, it's simple: do the right thing.
If this makes you just like everyone else, well, awesome. You're in good company. If this makes you stand out from everyone else, then congratulations; you now know what it's like to be light and salt in a world that hates Godliness.
Worrying too much about whether or not you are unique or different is just self-absorption.
P.S. First post: reviving a thread not touched for 5 months. I'm off to a great start. Attachments:

Brilliant, Hero!
I must admit, I agree wholeheartedly with your post.
Love the picture too -- it adds the perfect amount of humor that resonates long enough to have a sobering effect.
